Research Scientist Responsibilities
- Ensure laboratory safety by strictly adhering to protocols, maintaining a well-organized workspace, and fostering a secure research environment.
- Design, plan, and execute research projects focused on aircraft engine materials and repair technologies, spanning ceramics, high-temperature materials, composites, and coatings.
- Evaluate engine components to identify damage, wear, and degradation mechanisms, employing comprehensive analysis.
- Develop and optimize materials and processes for engine components, encompassing materials selection, process parameters, and performance testing.
- Apply ceramic coatings to engine components for enhanced performance, durability, and reliability.
- Collaborate with a diverse team of scientists, engineers, and technicians to innovate and test new materials, processes, and coating technologies.
- Utilize advanced analytical techniques, including spectroscopy, microscopy, and surface analysis, to comprehend fundamental degradation and repair mechanisms of engine components.
- Present research findings at internal meetings, conferences, and to business stakeholders.
- Contribute to intellectual property development through invention disclosures and patent applications.
- Manage and provide mentorship to junior researchers and technicians.
Research Scientist Qualification
- Educational Qualifications: Hold an M.Sc, M.Tech, or MS degree with a minimum of 3 years of experience, or possess a PhD in material science, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
- Expertise: Demonstrate experience in conducting research and development within aircraft engine materials and repair technologies, specifically in areas such as ceramic coatings and composites.
- Materials Science Proficiency: Exhibit a strong understanding of materials science and characterization.
- Analytical Techniques: Have hands-on experience with advanced analytical techniques, including spectroscopy, microscopy, surface analysis, materials testing, and fracture analysis.
- Materials Development: Possess experience in materials selection, process development, and performance testing.
- Communication Skills: Showcase excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Publication Record: Maintain a strong record of scientific publications and presentations at conferences.
- Project Management: Demonstrate the ability to lead and manage research projects and teams.
- Attention to Detail: Exhibit a strong attention to detail and a commitment to safety and quality.
- Intellectual Property: Experience with the intellectual property landscape and development is considered a plus.
